On Saturday May 12,
2007, three Salt Spring Island restaurateurs and more than a dozen bands
and individual performers from Salt Spring Island and
the Lower Mainland combined forces in support of
War Child Canada
and it's efforts to assist children affected by war while raising
awareness for children's
rights everywhere.
Hosted at the
Falconshead Grill & Lounge - a two hundred seat
venue at the Salt Spring Island Golf & Country Club - visitors enjoyed
a full day of free food and free music for a donation of $20.00 per
person, with all proceeds going to Warchild
Canada.
The musicians who generously donated their time included:

SWING SHIFT,
STACY BURKE,
PAINT,
HAILEY MORGAN,
THE DESTRUCTIONS,
DAVID BLAIR,
LOTUS,
LIS & LUKE, AND MANY MORE - while the free food and
service was provided by the Raven Street Market Cafe and the Falconshead
Grill.
Sadly, public
attendance was not as good as had been expected,
however, the
kidSTOCK
Benefit raised just under $1500.
The caliber
of talent was incredible - matched only by the performers'
generosity. Not only did many of these amazing people travel a great
distance at considerable expense to themselves; most actually dug into
their own pockets to make donations !
In addition to the money raised, the event generated a great deal of
awareness regarding the Warchild cause within the Salt Spring community.
In the days that followed the event, we probably received two dozen
e-mails from people who could not actually attend, but who wanted to
know more about Warchild and its activities. This bodes well for ongoing
fundraising activities and for
kidSTOCK 2008.
None of this would have been possible without the
unwavering support and generous contributions of the performers who
attended.
